Welcome & Induction 2016

Welcome & Induction 2016

The Welcome and Induction project has been underway for several months with staff from across the University working together to ensure our students have the best start, making them they feel part of the University, and aiding their retention and success.

Penny Renwick, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Students, who leads on the Induction and Welcome project said about the project ambition for this year: “The whole University is working in partnership to ensure new students starting their studies in September have the best possible introduction into their course and to university life.

“Here are just a few examples of the many enhancements we have planned. For the first time every student will be able to join an online community before coming to university, supported by peer mentors, so that their sense of belonging starts just as soon as it can and there are exciting plans to make sure the campuses in Manchester and Cheshire give students a special welcome.”

The Welcome project has a number of strands including: enhancements to academic induction, a university-wide mentoring project and events pre-arrival, as well as a communication plan to tie everything together to promote engagement, timely enrolment and attendance from week one.

Below are the details of how to access the resources for academic induction and an overview of the welcome events

Toolkit for Induction Planning: Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching has launched a new Student Induction and Transition page (www.celt.mmu.ac.uk/induction/), which provides useful resources and guidance for the academic elements of the student journey into the University and is the basis for securing ongoing retention, progression and success for students.
