The science of the silver screen: podcast

Film podcast
L to R: Dr Sam Illingworth, Senior Lecturer in Science Communication, Prof Neil Reeves and Dr Sophie Nixon

The latest episode of the Faculty of Science and Engineering’s Science & Film podcast is now available in which Professor Neil Reeves discusses the science behind Ridley Scott’s 2015 smash hit film, The Martian.

It is the 16th such podcast in the popular series, The Neutrinos are Mutating, during which Manchester Met scientists discuss how plausible the science in our favourite films are.

For this live podcast, Neil, an expert in the effects of spaceflight on the human body, and Dr Sophie Nixon from The University of Manchester, an expert in astrobiology, took part in a special live episode with 150 schoolchildren as part of the European City of Science celebrations.

The discussion followed a live screening of the film at Manchester Central Library.
