Three key senior appointments in Student and Academic Services

The Registrar, Professor Karen Moore, is pleased to announce three key senior appointments in Student and Academic Services.

Mike Gibbons (pictured) will be joining the University on 21 November 2016 as Director of External Relations and Deputy Registrar. In this new role, Mike will have line Mike Gibbons (Headshot) 1management responsibility for Recruitment & Admissions, the International Office and Marketing, Communications and Development.

Mike is currently Director of Student Recruitment and International Development at the University of Manchester.

Karen said: “I am delighted Mike is joining us. He is a highly experienced Higher Education professional, having worked in the sector for over 20 years. Most recently, he has held senior leadership responsibility for student recruitment, international relations, widening participation, as well as supporting the broader Student Experience agenda at the University of Manchester.

“Mike joins us at an important and exciting time and I’m confident he will make a significant contribution to the University.”

Speaking of his appointment, Mike said: “Manchester Metropolitan University is clearly going places and I am proud to be invited to join at such a pivotal time in its history. I look forward to helping drive and realise this renewed ambition in the coming years, and to placing Manchester Met, and our great city, even more strongly on the national and global stage.”

Helen Barton (pictured) will also be joining the University on 7 November 2016 as Director of Strategic Planning.

Currently Director of Planning at the University of Manchester, where she has held the post Helen Barton (Headshot)for 10 years, Helen has previously undertaken a senior planning role at the University of Central Lancashire. Helen’s early career was in the Foreign Office where she had a wide range of policy roles, before becoming Second Secretary within the Political Section at the British Embassy.

Karen said: “Helen is a highly experienced Planning Director and I am delighted she is joining Manchester Metropolitan. I am confident she will make a significant contribution to the University and will take the Strategic Planning Office (formerly SPMI) from strength to strength.’’

Helen said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester Metropolitan University at this exciting stage in its development and I look forward to working with colleagues to help shape the University’s strategic direction and further develop a strong and dynamic HE sector in Manchester.”

Helen KeefeHelen Keefe (pictured) has been appointed to the role of Director of Marketing, Communications and Development (MCD) with immediate effect. Helen has been acting Director since March 2016, having joined Manchester Metropolitan as Deputy Director of MCD in March 2015.

Karen said: “Since joining Manchester Metropolitan, Helen has demonstrated an ability to deliver innovative approaches to supporting organisational goals, ensuring quality, agility and value.

“Helen is an excellent appointment from what was a strong field of external candidates. With over 15 years’ experience at board and senior executive level,  Helen has defined and delivered integrated commercial marketing strategies which optimise results for private, public and third sector organisations.

“I am delighted with Helen’s appointment and excited by the contribution I know she will make to the University’s strategic ambitions.’’
