Electric Pool Cars at Manchester Metropolitan

The University has acquired five new Nissan Leaf 100% electric vehicles for colleagues to use for work-based journeys. This will enable colleagues to leave their own vehicle at home and make use of on-site vehicles to complete work tasks.

The vehicles will also provide a valuable resource to those who do not own a car. These vehicles can comfortably travel 80/110 miles on a single charge so can be used for many city-wide journeys.  Enterprise Car Club are responsible for the management of the vehicles on a day-to-day basis and all bookings should be through their portal as outlined below.

There are five cars available in 3 locations:

  • Oak – MT64 TGV (24kw, 80miles, MMU Union Car Park)
  • Holly – ML16 EJA (30kw, 110 miles, MMU Union Car Park)
  • Maple – MT64 TGX (24kw, 80 miles, Birley Fields MSCP roof)
  • Willow – ML16 CAU (30kw, 110 miles, Birley Fields MSCP roof)
  • Larch – MC16 CKE (30kw, 110 miles, Crewe Campus)

To use the vehicles you will need to be a member of Enterprise Car Club. Applications for a membership are made here: https://secure.citycarclub.co.uk/join/mmu/

The process, which involves a full licence check with the DVLA, is short and quick.

A management approval process will need to be completed before your application is complete. Please inform your line manager that they will need to approve this for you before you can proceed. Once complete, you will receive a membership card to your address within 3-4 days.

The membership card is required to book, access and lock the vehicles so it is essential you have this before attempting to use the vehicles.

Bookings are online via the Enterprise Car Club website.  Once booked, use the membership card to gain access using the reader on the dashboard of the vehicle. The glovebox has the on-board computer stored inside. Enter your PIN number to release the keys and disable the immobiliser. You can then start the vehicle and begin your booking. Once completed, return the keys to the computer and use your membership card to lock the vehicle.

Use of these vehicles is currently FREE but a small charge may exist in the future.

In addition to the above, we will be running some events in the next couple of weeks where you can sign up to Enterprise Car Club and even have a 1 to 1 session in the vehicles.
