Dr May Azzawi, Reader at the School of Healthcare Science, was elected to serve on the committee of The British Society for Cardiovascular Research (BSCR) for a three-year term.
The BSCR provides a forum for scientists and clinicians with research interests in the heart and vasculature in the UK.
May works within the cardiovascular research group with a special interest in vascular function studies and emerging technologies to improve dilator function.
Daniel Moreno, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Healthcare Science, with an interest in endothelial and platelet function in the vasculature, has recently been co-opted to join the society committee in recognition for his work to improve the online visibility of the society, making him one of the youngest committee members in the history of the BSCR. The appointments of May Azzawi and Daniel Moreno represent the strength in this area for Manchester Metropolitan and reinforce a key research area in the University.
Prof Yvonne Alexander, professor of translational cardiovascular medicine at Manchester Metropolitan, was the previous Chair of the society from 2011-2015 – the first female Chair of the society in its forty year history.
Joanne Urmston, Senior Lecturer at Manchester Law School, has been raising funds for Trafford Rape Crisis (TRC) after completing the Manchester Half Marathon last week.
She said: “Thank you so much for the generous donations. I really appreciate all the support from work colleagues and the generous donations to TRC.”
