This year’s Design Manchester festival brought together design, innovation and policy experts and Manchester’s design community to discuss the city’s identity and the state of the creative industries.

Lord Mandelson, Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University, was a panel expert at City ID: the Great Debate alongside the Co-op’s Head of Technology Engagement Emer Coleman; Designer Republic’s Ian Anderson; Andy Burnham MP; magnetic North’s Lou Cordwell; urbanist and designer Claire Mookerjee; and City ID’s Mike Rawlinson.

The panel discussed city identity, devolution, Brexit and the role of the creative industries in creating successful, inclusive and connected cities. The debate provided an opportunity for the creative community to feed into Design Manchester’s evidence to the House of Commons’ Culture, Media and Sport Committee’s enquiry into the impact of Brexit on the creative industries.
