MMU Sport is proud to announce two vacancies for the new Coach Core apprenticeship scheme.
The scheme, run by the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, gives young people aged 16-24 living in London, Manchester and Glasgow the chance to become the next generation of inspirational coaches. The Royal Foundation launched the Coach Core apprenticeship for young people who wish to gain further education and employment in sport.
Coach Core aims to inspire young people through sport, and to support their development in coaching. Apprentices work for 30 hours a week, for at least one full year – during which time their employment will be paid.
Apprentices receive recognised coaching qualifications delivered by leaders in sports coaching.
The apprenticeship builds on MMU Sport’s programme of sports development in young people through our coaching programmes , sport volunteering and coaching in the community as part of our role as an FA Super Hub. There will be opportunities for the apprentices to be mentored by our Level 2 coaches delivering in schools working alongside our student volunteers to support delivery as part of our FA Super Hub work.
“This is an exciting opportunity for MMU Sport to team up with several other Manchester employers to offer young local people the opportunity to gain experience of delivering activities in a higher education environment. We are uniquely placed to offer a wide range of opportunities through our recreational, club, community and health and fitness programmes. We are really excited about the opportunities this will provide young people,” said Jonathan Fletcher, Sport Development Manager.
Jon, an apprentice on a previous Coach Core programme said: “Coach Core has affected my life for the better; I’ve learned different styles of coaching, gained qualifications and received mentoring to help improve my skills. Before I would sit in the house all day and do nothing but now that I’m on Coach Core I have a chance to get out and be active almost every day of the week acting as a role model in my community to help other people be active.”
As part of the programme, the team were invited to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at their recent visit to Manchester (pictured).
