Christmas at The Library

Holidays are coming, and the Library’s already in the Christmas spirit. As a Christmas gift for you, here are our highlights from the month ahead:

Six Staff Selections…

We’ve chosen some of our favourite festive books for staff and students to enjoy as part of our monthly Love To Read campaign. (Okay, technically there are more than six staff selections, but the carol wouldn’t work that way.)

We also have displays in All Saints and Crewe Libraries with Christmas classics ready for you to loan and enjoy.

Stuck for a film to watch this Christmas? From It’s A Wonderful Life to Elf, we’ve got you covered with our specially curated BoB playlist, all available on demand.

Five Collection Bins…

Collection Point 1.jpeg

From 1st – 23rd December, you can help the local Manchester Central Foodbank by donating non-perishable food and toiletries to the collection point in All Saints Library reception.

And as an added bonus, you can see the latest Bookface masterpiece by our resident artist, Phil.

Thank you to Yvonne and all the staff at Crewe Library for their collection in support of The Salvation Army.

Four Crafters Crafting…

For one week only, the All Saints Chat Zone will become the Christmas Craft Zone!

We’ll be setting up a Christmas crafts table in the Chat Zone, where we’ll be recycling paper, ribbons and fabric to make snowflakes, stars, baubles and birds. You can come and make some too, and you’ll be delighted at how simple they are to make and how wonderful they look. Take a break from work and study, chat to Library staff, relax for just a few minutes, and take your decorations home with you.

We’ll be in the Chat Zone from Monday 5th – Friday 9th December, between 12 and 2pm each day. See you there!

Thirty Quiz Questions…

From 12th – 19th December we’ll be holding a Christmas Quiz at the Library, with a £20 Amazon voucher for the winning student!

Forms will be available from the All Saints Library Helpdesk.

12th – 19th is also Christmas Jumper Week at the Library. Jumpers are not mandatory, but are encouraged (it can get chilly on the fourth floor).

Two Christmas Trees…

The Library elves have worked their magic to create a Christmas tree with a difference – it’s made entirely from books! Check it out in All Saints Library lift lobby, snap some photos and tag us @MMULibrary.

Christmas tree traditionalist? We’ve got a classic model in the foyer, too.

…And an Alphabet by the Library

LibAlphabet Letters.jpg

Library staff love lists, letters and promoting our amazing services, and this Christmas, we might just have found the perfect combination. Inspired by the New Manchester Alphabet, Manchester Met Librarians have created our own Library Alphabet to highlight some of the lesser known Library services and resources that staff and students have access to.

The artworks for each letter were all created by Library staff whose talents range from the great (see G & Z) to the… not so great (see T). The materials used are just as wide-ranging, from pen and paper to steam-bent wood, glitter, pasta and bulldog clips.

Every day a new letter is being released and we’ve already had #Bookface, Fifth Floor and the equally loved and hated Kik-Step. If you think we might not have resources to get to X, Y and Z, think again…
