Reminder: STAFF GOVERNOR VACANCY

Would you like to contribute to the effective governance and strategic direction of Manchester Metropolitan?

Applications are now invited for a member of professional services staff to serve on the University’s Board of Governors from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2019. There are three Staff Governor positions on the Board. One of the current post holders is leaving the University, leaving a vacancy. As the other two post holders are members of academic staff, we are now seeking to appoint a member of non-academic staff to fill the other position.

The Board of Governors is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the University, for oversight of its activities and for the efficient use of its resources as set out in the University’s Articles of Government.

All permanent members of professional services staff are eligible to apply for the vacancy. Candidates should support the aims and objectives of the University and are expected to work co-operatively with other Governors in the best interests of the University and to adhere to the duties of Board members as outlined below:

  • to exercise their responsibilities in the interests of the University as a whole rather than as a representative of any constituency;
  • to act corporately in the best interests of the University serving its further development and advancement;
  • to assure the University’s corporate responsibilities and obligations under law, regulations and public and University policy;
  • to act in good faith, honestly and properly, exercising appropriate care and diligence;
  • to disclose and, wherever possible, avoid conflicts of interest.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV and an Expression of Interest Form, outlining why they are interested in becoming a Governor and what they feel they could bring to the role. The Expression of Interest Form will need to be signed by the candidate and two other permanent members of staff nominating the candidate.
