Deadline nears in search for next year’s student officer team

The search is on for next year’s student officer team – six full-time student representatives who will lead The Union in 2017/18.

Nominees must submit their name before Tuesday February 28 however.

Student officers play a vital role at our University.  The President and Vice-President are members of our Board of Governors and other sabbatical officers sit on key University committees.

These are important conduits through which the student voice is heard and can make a difference. If you know of a student who has the capacity to make a great contribution, please encourage them to put themselves forward.  Above all, please urge all our students to use their vote.

If you know someone who would make a great student officer, you can recommend them on The Union’s website.

All current students can stand or vote in the elections, regardless of their course, year or background, so now is the time to encourage anyone you think would be suitable for one of the sought-after roles.

There are six paid positions, including President, Vice President Cheshire, Education, Community, Activities Cheshire and Activities Manchester.

Lewis Bartlett, Students’ Union President 2016-17, said: “Being a Student Officer has allowed me to have a level of responsibility that would otherwise have taken years to achieve, it has helped me grow in confidence and I’ve learnt more than I could have imagined within the role.”

Students can put themselves forward to stand for one of the positions until Tuesday February 28.

The nominations period will be followed by candidate campaigns and voting throughout March. Successful candidates will then take up their positions on the first day of July for the period of one academic year.

Visit The Union’s website to find out more and to recommend students for the role.
