FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 2017

 

Fairtrade Fortnight begins on February 27 and we are looking to you to help us show support for farmers and workers who grow our food in developing countries. Manchester Met and The Union have been Fairtrade certified since 2008 and each year we get together to celebrate and show our support. Get involved this year…

‌ORGANISE YOUR OWN EVENT! 

Be part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2017 by organising an event with friends or colleagues. Anything from a Bake Off to a break, get together and show your support for Fairtrade. Got something planned? We would be happy to support you so get in touch at environment@mmu.ac.uk.

Tuesday March 7, 2pm. Brooks Building, Ground Floor.

Join us for our Fairtrade Tea and Coffee Break, take some time out with friends and colleagues to enjoy a free Fairtrade product (while stocks last) and show your support for Farmers. Not able to join us, have a break where you are and don’t forget to share a photo on social media for a chance to win a Fairtrade Hamper just use #MMUFairtrade.

Not able to join us have a break where you are? You can still share a photo on social media for a chance to win a Fairtrade Hamper just use #MMUFairtrade.

POP SWAP – CLOTHING AND BOOK SWAP 

Wednesday March 1, 12.30 – 2.30pm. Grosvenor Gallery. 

Get involved in our regularly clothing and book swap and take time to consider those who made our clothes. Modern slavery and exploitation are commonplace in the production of fast-fashion but there are alternatives from swishing to purchasing from organisations who are transparent about their supply-chains. Don’t fund exploitation this Fairtrade Fortnight. Check out the Facebook event for more info.

FREE FILM SCREENING: FAIRTRADE & BLOOD DIAMOND (CHESHIRE)

Thursday March 2, 7pm. Student Zone.

Join us for a short film about Fairtrade followed by a screening of the 2006 film Blood Diamond which highlight a number of the issues linked to the theme of exploitation in supply chains and explores the effects of ‘conflict diamonds’ on South Africa. CHESHIRE STAFF VS STUDENTS FAIRTRADE FOOTBALL MATCH

Wednesday March 8, 4-6pm. 3G PitchCheshire Campus.

BalaSportsUK have provided Fairtrade footballs stitched in Pakistan.There will be Fairtrade half-time snacks and a hamper for the winning team.

BalaSportsUK have provided Fairtrade netball stitched in Pakistan.There will be Fairtrade half-time snacks and a hamper for the winning team.

FACE FAIRTRADE AT CREWE LIBRARY

Tuesday February 28 and Thursday March 9. 12 – 2pm.

Can you guess the Fairtrade Mug Shot? Pop-in to the Library Seminar Room for a chance to win a Fairtrade food and drink hamper, kindly donated by The Co-operative.

Faitrade Inspired Art Show 

Raise awareness through your creativity and share or create a piece of art for a show being held in the Link Gallery during May around the themes of modern slavery and exploitation. The call for art is going out throughout Fairtrade Fortnight with the show to follow later in May to serve as a reminder of the efforts of Fairtrade Fortnight. More information can be found here.

FOOD AND DRINK OFFERS 

MMU Food & Drink will have a number of offers on food and drink products over Fairtrade Fortnight at every catering outlet across campus.

  • Ooh ‘av a banana – Buy any Fairtrade tea or coffee and get your banana half price
  • Break open your Kit Kat with a friend – Buy any two small Fairtrade tea or coffee and a four-finger Kit Kat for only £3.20
  • Take a break with a cake for £2.50 –  Get double points
  • Buy a small Fairtrade coffee or tea between 9.45am and 11am or 2.15pm to 3.45pm to earn double loyalty points

*Don’t forget, during Fairtrade Fortnight, all Fairtrade snacks and Fairtrade Fruit will earn you 50 loyalty points.
