Strike by Northern Rail staff on Friday, April 28

Staff are reminded to make alternate commute arrangements if necessary ahead of a full one day strike by train staff on Friday, April 28.

Northern Rail has said that an estimated six in 10 of its normal weekday services are not expected to run.

Those that are operating will be working to a revised timetable, with rail replacement buses on some lines. Northern Rail is advising customers they will be able to use their rail tickets on Arriva Bus services on April 28 to make journeys they would otherwise have made by rail.

See Northern Rail’s passenger information on the industrial action including a full list of the 55 routes in operation.

Transport for Greater Manchester has advised that alternate rail routes are likely to be busier than usual during the morning and evening rush hours – as are buses, trams and roads into central Manchester.

University car park permit holders are advised that there is likely to be additional demand due to the strike. John Dalton permits will be accepted in the Birley Multi-storey on Friday April 28 as an exception. Car parking will continue to be on a licence to hunt basis with no guarantee of a space.

University staff are advised to make every effort to attend work on Friday, April 28. Where this is likely to be particularly difficult, staff should speak to their line manager.
