Challenge yourself this summer with MMU hill walkers

DCIM100GOPRO

Whether you are a seasoned hiker, casual stroller or just fancy getting out in the countryside and meeting new people, then there’s something for everyone in our remaining few walks of the year.

Whilst the sun is shining and the snow and hail is at bay (fingers crossed), why not take the opportunity to come along to one of Manchester Met’s staff hill walks.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge – Sat 24th June

The first of our three walks is the biggest one of the year and gives participants the challenge of taking on Yorkshire’s three largest peaks, all in one day – Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside & Inglebrough. A real chance to push your own expectations and take in the breath-taking Yorkshire Dales as part of a supported team. We will have checkpoints along the way and expert advice from two of the area’s top Mountain Leaders.

Why not use the opportunity to raise some money for charity too? But don’t worry this isn’t a must in order to take part, just an added nicety if you wish.

Bushcraft Day – Sunday 29th July

Ever fancied channelling your inner Ray Mears? Here’s your chance! The focus of the day will still be on walking but with the added bonus of picking up a few skills along the way.

You’ll learn about safely lighting fire, chopping wood, as well as outdoor cooking whilst out in the wilderness, all under the supervision of a qualified instructor. This walk will be located around the West Pennine Moors and the reservoirs and quarries of Anglezarke.

Snowdon – Saturday 20th August

Our final walk takes us to the summit of one of the UK’s most famous peaks. Standing at 1085m this energizing walk should take around 5 hours to compete from Pen-y-pass and down to the village of Llanberis. On a clear day a walk not to be missed.
