One of the most important recent developments in the civic life of Manchester and the North West has been the election of the Mayor of Greater Manchester. The Mayor’s powers are wide and extensive: even greater than those of his peer in London. A dynamic Mayor can stimulate the economic, social and cultural life of our region. But what are the challenges that he is facing? What are the problems that he has inherited from the past? These issues will be discussed by Professor Parker and Dr. Millington.

Catherine Parker is Professor of Retail Marketing at the Manchester Metropolitan University and Director of the Institute of Place Management.

Steve Millington is Senior Lecturer in Geography at the Manchester Metropolitan University, and a trustee of the Manchester geographical Society.

Admission Free, but a donation of £ 2 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity will be greatly appreciated by the History Department
