Hill walking – The adventure that was the Y3P

DS Hill Walking

Last weekend before last, a group of intrepid Manchester Met staff took on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, walking up the three largest peaks in Yorkshire in under 12hours: Pen- Y-Ghent, Whernside and Inglebrough.

Among them was Mail Messenger, Dave Robinson. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“Initially none of us were too concerned about the day, it was more about getting to know each other and just enjoying it. Realisation of what was involved only really kicked in when we had to walk a very long distance to our meeting point for refreshments, but we were all ready for the challenge.

“The top of the second summit was very wet, a couple of us waited at the top for the rest of the team and I was so pleased to see all the smiling faces approaching me having got to the top.

“With the last peak left, a couple of us just went for it, there was no way this last peak was beating any of our remaining team! It was a great feeling when we finished and returned back to our meet up point. Seeing the whole team finishing under the 12 hour deadline was the best summit of the day. Getting back to nature is where you find your true self.

“Morale of the day was never give up, and you can if you think you can!”
