Circus Symposium: Philip Astley and the Legacy of Modern Circus

The symposium marks the 250th anniversary of founding of modern circus by Philip Astley, who was born close to the Cheshire campus in nearby Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The symposium will feature speakers from institutions in Italy, Brazil, France and the UK, including Professor Dave Day of Manchester Met’s Cheshire campus.

Circus skills workshops will also be taking place on the afternoons where staff and students will be welcome to try their hand at plate spinning and other activities.
